Scotty, my daughter is considering buying a new Buick Encore GX. Is the 1.3 Turbo 3 cylinder motor in it any good, and overall is it a good car/

Short Answer: No
If she plans to keep the vehicle for as long as possible and get as much mileage out of it, avoid it, or lease it (at best). Realize GM quality has been steadily going downhill for a while now and best to stay away from them, especially out of warranty. GM already had issues with their own 8-speed AT, so I don’t have high hopes for the longevity of their 9-speed AT also designed by then (which also had issues):
Also, those 3 cylinder engines are all-new for GM cars here in North America and so she would be a guinea pig for them if she buys it (and they are not even paying her to test for them 🙂 ). Plus with 3-cylinders turbo charged under all that pressure they will wear out sooner.
Look at the Honda HRV. And there is a new one coming out sometime this year.
