i and my wife did not research the car before we buy one. she bought Buick Englave. I heard now they have a problem with transmission and it will not last long as Toyota (miles). barely 100,000 miles. what is your advice (keep it or sell it) and how we can avoid transmission problems in future

Have it evaluated & see how much you’re being offered. In this crazy used car market, you should be offered much more than what you paid for it. Did you mean a brand new Highlander, or do you already have your eyes set on a good condition, used one?

As @mmj recommended, a private sale would usually fetch you a higher price. However, you can also get a quote from a dealer/s to jack up the value of your trade in.
