Why is my Ram 1500 burning oil?

Scotty,

I have a 1999 dodge Ram 1500 Sport, 5.9 Magnum V8. 175,000 miles.  It burns a quart of oil about every 1000 miles.  Normal exhaust smoke, no water in the oil, no visable leaks or build up of oil on the engine.  Any ideas of the issue?

Your engine is probably wearing out. You could change your PCV valve and see if that helps. Another possibility would be trying the ATS Carbon Clean product that Scotty recommends. It may help if oil control rings are gunked up with carbon.

Change the PCV valve. How long have you been changing the oil in your car?
