You suggest the Toyota SUV as a great car. Smith wants a truck.

He is good student, responsible, and a track star in the 10th grade.

The family likes Toyotas. I say an old truck like the car you suggested.

What do you think?

I saw a 2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner with 188,000 miles, appearance is very good for $19,000
Was this a good year?

A 2014 pre runner with 188k miles for 19k is NOT a good deal.

A Toyota truck ("truck", Tacoma, T100; anything except a newer Tundra, which would be too big for a young driver) would be a safe, reliable choice.  Only thing is that they hold value really well (ie, used ones are expensive) and a lot of them out there have a ton of miles.

Find a non-lifted, 2-wheel drive, regular cab Taco with as few miles as possible.  And while you're at it, teach him how to change his own oil.

PS: My first car was a 64 Chevy Stepside that we acquired from my grandfather... wish we still had it.
