I live in Colorado Springs, and I found a Toyota RAV4 that I really like that is currently in El Paso, Texas. It's a private seller and a wonderful deal, but the only potential issue is that the car was originally purchased in Mexico and has license tags for Mexico. Any thoughts?
Maybe the speedometer would be in km/h instead of mph, or my owners manual would be in spanish lol. But also, I'm not aware of the legal routes to take to "import" this vehicle (aka, get tags for Colorado instead of Mexico). Any advice/tips/etc are welcome!
You didn't say what model year the RAV4 is. If the vehicle was brought into the US when it was less than 25 years old it was probably imported illegally and if the federales clue onto it the thing will be seized and crushed.
Check with your local DMV for the rules and regulations regarding your situation. Get the facts first. Maybe even your local Legal Aid can help too.
