Hello everyone! I recently started watching Scotty’s content because I have a growing interest in cars but will also need one soon. So far I’ve found a 2004 Toyota Highlander V6 4WD automatic with around 150,000 miles on it for $4,900 and a 2007 Toyota Highlander V6 FWD automatic with 175,000 miles for $4,500 and just wanted to know, which is the better buy? I’m in grad school and just need something to get around and it reliable but would prefer to be up off the ground because I’m a bit of a bigger guy and getting down isnt the easier for me. Any help is much appreciated! Thank you in advance!
The second one but make sure to have a mechanic check it out and road test them.
Hy!
If you don't need AWD, I suggest you get FWD one. It is cheaper to buy and maintain. Anyway roadtest it. If you like it, let a mechanic check it.
Good luck!
Wow, that was fast! Thank you so much! Even though the one with FWD is nearing 200k miles (and checking it with a mechanic would definitely tell me about some issues), it’s the better one in the long run because that FWD system is cheaper?
Both, AWD and FWD, are OK. If you live in snowy area, AWD is better for driving uphill. It is also better option for towing and driving off-road. AWD is heavier than FWD and uses more fuel.
I would also go FWD for the cheaper maintenance and running costs.
Thank you! In the event that I can’t get a mechanic to look at it (because I don’t know one or since it’s in a completely different city), what should I do to them? Bring an OBDII scanner with me?
That would be a good idea if you know how to pull the codes and read the data. Of course, you could always post any codes you find here and we can help.
Okay, sounds perfect! Thank you so much, that is super helpful!
