[Solved] Buying a used cash vehicle... what's best?

  • My budget is up to $4,200, possibly more next month, and I'm wondering if I should buy a Mazda3, Toyota Camry, or Honda Civic for cash cars around my area here in Texas? Which option is best? Does high mileage matter on these and which brand is best for my cash and time? I'm looking to buy years 2000+ being my only options at the time in terms of budget.
  • I have to voluntarily return my Jeep Compass, because long story short DriveTime is basically ripping me off and I can't afford payments anymore since everything that happened the last year.

Camry, Corolla, or Civic would be good bets. Make sure you have a mechanic check it out before you buy.

Mileage isn't so much a concern. It is more maintenance and condition of the vehicle. Also, stick to CLEAN TITLES and stay away from any salvage/rebuilt junk. Sellers down here love to tell you "it has a blue rebuilt clean title". Impossible. It is either clean, or it is crap.

The cheap car market is tight right now but check out Craigslist, etc. for good options.

And I hear you on DriveTime. They are terrible. Sorry you had to deal with them.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you.

Out of those depending on year either the Camry or Civic.

To see what years to avoid, check out the To Buy Not To Buy Toyotas and Hondas page linked below.

Good luck!
