I have a 09 corolla 1.8 with an exhaust leak, do I need to fix it in order for the engine to last? Or is it something I can drive on forever?
where is the leak?

if it's on the catalytic converter, or before, then yes it'll affect your engine.
If it's anywhere else, then you still need to fix it because it'll fill up your car with undetectable carbon monoxide (CO).
CO can make you slowly sink into unconsciousness without realizing it, and eventually you die.
That's why some people choose this method to leave their mortal bodies.
You have to choose the right car to do it deliberately though...

Your neighbors and fellow motorists might find it obnoxious.
