Hi
2012 Kia Sorento 2.2L 4 cyl diesel,
Odometer: 687,000 km
I just had my alternator replaced yesterday. But lost a bit of coolant and power steering oil.
Today the steering pump was noisy, so I had a spare Valvoline oil (power steering oil).
The power steering oil which is already in my car is Penrite. But because now I urgently need to drive the car, I decided to top it up with Valvoline. And plan to buy new oil later today.
The oil was below the minimum indicator on the power steering reservoir.
The noise is gone now and power steering working OK.
I'm paranoid is the mixing of Penrite and Valvoline oil going to cause problems?
Later today I'll go and buy new Valvoline power steering oil, and probably later in the late afternoon I'll have the oil flushed and replaced with new.
If both power steering fluids meet the same specifications it should be OK. However after 13 years changing the stuff completely is not a bad idea. Make sure the Valvoline fluid meets the manufacturer's requirements if that's what you plan to use.
