Hello Scotty! I have an old set of 2 craftsman 3 ton jackstands. Can I safely use them for my 2002 Chevy Silverado 5.3l 2wd ext cab? If not, what do you recommend? I will be under the truck to change the transmission fluid. Thank you!
What do you mean "old", like you've used them for a long time and never had issues or its been sitting in the corner of the garage for 30 years and look beat up?
I got under my dads Camaro last week with jack stands that his friends father used to use at his shop (very old). But they are made out of solid steel and looked like they were in good shape.
Your truck weighs up to 5100 lbs. Assuming the stands will see more than half the vehicle weight, that's 3000lbs on both stands, or 1500 per stand. So you're at half what's rated, that shouldn't be an issue.
I always leave the floor jack under the car with just a bit of load on it too once I set my car on jack stands, just as an extra safety measure.
They're probably fine, they don't really go bad unless there's an obvious issue. But if you're concerned at all they're not expensive for a set, definitely not worth the risk of serious injury.
They're not in bad condition old but i was implying they were made when craftsman was decent and not newer junk.
Gotcha, should be good to go then.
Appreciate it!
If they're in good condition it should be fine
