I'm looking to purchase a 2008 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 from a private seller. The truck has 228 000km (141 000mi). He is asking $14 500 CAD ($11500 USD) for it. Pending a clean safety check is this a fair price? Also, is there anything of concern about this model.
A little more information would be helpful. If it is the extended cab with the V6 I would say its a decent price. Offer 10k see if they take it. If its a regular cab with the 4 cyl I wouldn’t pay more than 8500.
A bit overpriced considering the year and mileage but it is still a fair price. Just keep up with the maintenance and it should last you a long time.
If it passes a mechanical inspection they are great trucks. You would want to check for rust and see if you are fine with the paint as they tended to chip off.
Price wise, its a good price for some markets, a bit expensive for others. Definitely not a deal breaker if you like the truck.
Buy it! I have 2005 since new with 218K. It's bulletproof.
One caveat, the 2005-2008 had a rusted frame recall. Toyota spent 17K on my truck 4 years ago, it ran like brand new after the work. Was that truck recalled and frame replaced? Just be careful not to buy a truck that needed the recall but the owner never took the car in for the work.
