Hey Scotty! I've got a 2003 Toyota 4Runner 2WD. It runs great but I can't accelerate quickly turning left or right like making a 90 degree turn and taking off quickly to get into traffic. Does this sound familiar?
Cornering fast in a 4Runner is a good way to cause a roll over, especially if you are taking a 90 degree turn at open throttle. You're probably lucky it didn't accelerate normally.
To fix the issue, check the usual power drains: fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, etc. If you have clicking going on while cornering, it could be any number of things but you need to get that checked out sooner than later.
I assume you are saying it used to accelerate well out of corners and there has been a decrease in performance, not that it’s just inherently bad at it.
First thing is tires: check tread and air pressure (and fill to upper end of the range). If that’s not it, look at sway bar links and bushings. Then maybe struts.
It's like it looses power and then there's a clicking sound when it engages back.
Only around corners? I’d guess a problem in the differential but maybe someone who has had a similar problem might know
Why would you expect what is essentially a bar of soap on wheels to handle like a Porsche 911?
I hope you have good insurance
