Hey guys,
my battery light in 2006 corolla started coming on suddenly when I start the car or I am idling, but goes away when I am driving normally. I got my battery tested it’s perfectly fine. On testing the alternator, it says there’s a problem with alternator regulator. Should I change my alternator immediately? I am currently on a week long road trip, can it survive the week?
The alternator recharges the battery, and runs all your accessories.
You should replace it if you don't want to get stranded.
+1 @mmj
You really don’t want to risk getting stranded somewhere ~ 5 hrs away from home.
Worse, if you’re in the middle of nowhere with no civilisation to ask for immediate help.
If it’s only the regulator, you can try only replacing the regulator or going to a good mechanic to do it. You don’t wanna gamble with that. If you want you can try replacing the whole alternator which may be more costly. But I would suggest to go to a good mechanic who can fix the regulator.
I see. I am just a little worried as I am on road right now and it’s a 10 hr drive. Can’t even turn back and go home it’s 6 hrs away. Can i just drive on? Can get someone in the morning.
Cars haven't had regulators in decades. Certainly not user replaceable ones.
