Car has poor acceleration on start

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2007 Pontiac g6 with 163k miles. After first starting the car the acceleration is very poor and feels like it won’t shift. Then within seconds of driving I can feel it finally shift and then accelerates normally. Seems like it only happens in first gear? What could be the problem?

What could be the problem?

It could be a worn-out transmission. When is the last time it was serviced? Is there enough fluid and what is its condition?

You probably need to check your fluid and see if it needs to be changed. Check the dipstick and see how dark the fluid is. If it smells burnt then change the fluid by dropping the pan, cleaning out the pan, and put it back on the tranny before throwing in some new fluid along with some transmission slip preventative.

Since I'm sure this one has the 4 speed automatic like most G6 models do within that year, they don't hold up as well and with any hard use of it, the internals would go out real easily. It's even worse if you have the one with the V6 engine in it too (I don't know if yours has one). On the other hand, baby the car and don't drive it hard. You don't wanna spend a lot of money rebuilding that junky transmission😆

Thank you! I will check the fluid this weekend. Which transmission slip preventative would you recommend?

The Lucas Transmission Fix liquid is a good recommendation. You can find it easily on the harbor freight website for about 15 bucks.
