Hello.
I have a Kia picanto 2006. When I try to accelerate at low rpm( 1000-1200 ) the car hesitates, it rev up then stop , rev up, stop, ... Until reaching 2000
The car also does similar stopping when it's in high Rev 3k and releasing the pedal completely. After that sudden stop then start rev down smoothly
What I have tried:
Cleaning the air intake body, including the IAC valve.
Adding a bottle of fuel injector cleaner from stp. (High mileage ). No difference so far.
Replaced spark plugs less than 5000 km ago.
What else can I test? Thanks
@cqsaman , can you give us more information?
What’s the mileage? So I’ll know what diagnosis is more likely.
Is it an automatic? If so is it a 4 speed and when’s the last time you changed the fluid?
Do you happen to know what engine model and displacement is it?
Can you upload a video of how the RPM is behaving?
Have you tried scanning with a full system scanner? Or even with an OBD2 scanner?
sounds to me like a worn out clutch or gearbox. So if there are any other gearbox symptoms, make sure to also write them…
Also, most importantly, if it is an automatic - does the manual ask for “Type D” fluid or “ATF SP II”?
This will allow me to know the exact transmission you have - the symptoms you’re describing are common on the ones that use “SP III”
If you’re car in an automatic - your friction packs are probably gone.
(Very likely if your car uses SP III, and has over 125,000 miles)
not much you can do about it expect junking the car or buying a junkyard replacement gearbox.
Thanks Dan
My car has a 5 speed manual transmission
Mileage is 68k miles (city car)
Engine is petrol 1.1
In line SOHC
4 cylinders
About the OBD2, the scanner doesn't show any code.
I'll record a video as soon as I can
First check that it isn’t a slipping clutch. you get to a reasonably high gear and give it a lot of gas - the revs and the speed should increase the same rate.
not like this:
if your clutch slips replace it.
otherwise, I’d go to a mechanic that can check the equipment outside of the engine (fuel pump, filters, …)
Also the wiring on the sparks can be unreliable and cause issues.
and if that fails, I do not think it’s a likely cause but the Hyundai-Kia 1.1 engine had an issue with the crankshaft’s key getting dislodged and messing up the engine’s timing.
The car went more crazy this week, getting stuck at high rpm randomly when idle.
I found the TPS sensor giving weird measures over the scanner, and also when plugging a multimeter.
I don't know if that is an additional problem or it could be related with the jerking accel. Will be looking at it today.
The TPS solved some erratic idle, but the jerking still there, here the video.
