2002 Lexus ES300. It all started with a motor mount; the one in the middle with hydraulic fluid to be precise. I removed my radiator to gain access to it. During re installation, I accidentally poked a hole in the radiator and got a new one a couple days later. I was then able to figure out the vacuum lines for the motor mount. I messed that up and ended up taking all the lines out. I looked up a chart and got them back in place. I then took it on a 2 mile test drive and all was good. I already know I need a new transmission; 2nd and 5th gear hasn't worked in months and I have the code P0793. I got that code a couple weeks ago as I do not have a scan tool and am not able to look up anymore codes. After the test drive, I drive it home and the car started shuddering really bad; the engine had almost no power and RPMs were fluctuating rapidly. I got home, tried to put it in park, but the gear lever is stuck in drive. Even with force, I can't get it into park. My key is stuck in the ignition and the car won't even start anymore. This all started with a motor mount and now I'm stuck. Does anyone have any ideas on whether this is fixable or whether I should junk the car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind of sounds like it might be time to get rid of if your transmission is locked up and had all those problems it's generally more money than the car is worth
I already planned to install a used transmission myself next month since it lost 2nd and 5th. I saw some for $500 and that's better than what car prices are right now. The engine itself has no problems; no codes and the live stream on a scan tool is all within specs. Do you think installing a used transmission would fix the vehicle? I just don't get how it could suddenly lock up to where I can't even shift it into park and take my keys out. It performed just fine during the 2 mile test drive I mentioned.
It sounds like the electrical circuitry associated with your broken ignition switch could be causing all these problems, except the trans shifting problems. A new ignition switch is available from AutoZone for about $75.
