Change CVT fluid?

Topic starter

Aloha so I have this 2011 Sentra with 189k miles

Last owner said she had it for 7 years and never changed trans fluid

But the fluid isn’t black it smells used but not burnt seems a tiny bit brown but not burnt just smell like it’s used

Should I change like a small amount like maybe a quart at a time over long period of time I want this to last it shifts good really good and not rlly a delay in shifting. She said she did keep up on oil changes tho.

You go through a lot of cars.

Please read our FAQ as was suggested to you the last time you asked.

The Jatco CVTs used by Nissan are terrible. That one has already lasted more than most of them and you can expect it to fail in the not too distant future. Changing the fluid may help a bit but don't expect miracles.

Have you tried amsoil? I heard it's better than Nissan brand ns2

Heard from who? Amsoil marketing?

Considering how fragile Nissan CVTs are you would be best served by frequent changes using OEM fluid. At 189K miles I would not expect it to last much longer in any event.

Amsoil had tests done at 100k miles and tore down tranny's showing it performed better than oem fluid ns2

Ah, an "unbiased" source. What was the sample size, what models were tested and under what conditions were the tests performed, and what was the control group? Was it a double-blind testing procedure?
