Hey Scotty I have A 2019
mini countryman, Original owner and I am coming up on 40,000 miles and want to change my ATF fluid and front Diff oil when I hit 40K.
I was looking at some high grade AMS oil ATF fluid and front diff oil. Can I use their stuff or should I go to the dealer and buy the BMW OEM STUFF? AMS oil says in their specs that it can be used in BMWS and out performs and outlasts most OEM fluids, same with their gear oil.
No, never use aftermarket fluids when changing out transmission fluid. Always go with the OEM fluid because any slight difference in the fluid quality will cause problems. Modern transmissions are very sensitive to fluids, so go with the OEM. Plus, not all the transmission fluid is going to drain, so you want the same OEM fluid to mix with the old OEM fluid left in there.
As for the differential fluid (which is basically hypoid gear oil), you can use any aftermarket one that's OEM quality or better and of the right oil weight. I believe it uses BMWs 75w-90 hypoid gear oil, but I would call the dealer to make sure you get the correct specifications for your vehicle.
