I have a 2006 VW Jetta TDI with 310,000 well maintained miles on it. The check engine light just came on. What's a good scan tool to use?

Useful if you live in America. For other parts of world you should check out if these tools are made vehicles there.
Good point, thanks.
You're welcome.
If you just want to read the code, go to an autopart store and have them scan it. If you want to buy a scan tool, it depends on your budget and tool capabilities. Search this forum for more info.
For VWs (any VAG product), your best bet will be a dedicated VAG-COM VCDS scanner.
So these would work on a diesel engine?
As long as you got the OBDII port, it works.
Thanks Yaser!
You're welcome and good luck.
