Scotty,
I have a 2011 Chevy Impala Police pkg I purchased from car dealer who bought at auction. The car has 70K miles on 3.5L engine. I have an
oil leak which I believe is coming from the main rear seal area. I've replaced both valve cover gaskets but that turned out not to be the problem. The leak is minor. I had oil changed and added ATP 205 to see if that would stop it. I've put 700 miles on car since adding the additive and leak is still present. What would you recommended I do to not have to pull tranny? Will cost around price $700 to repair.
Thanks Scotty
Between oil changes how much oil have you had to add? (And what is your oil change interval?). If it’s a very minor leak and not dripping on the ground I would just live with it and keep adding oil. I have a rear main seal leak on my truck (~128,000 miles) and need to add 0.5qt every 5,000 miles (my oil change interval).
Pulling the tranny and replacing the seal is the only true "fix". Unless it drips on the ground, I would just keep feeding it oil. A bit of RMS seepage is fairly common.
