So I am looking at two cars currently :
1 - 2007 Toyota Yaris S (5 speed Manual), with 108000 miles
2 - 2012 Honda Civic lx coupe (5 speed manual) with 1010000 miles
- The 2012 Civic comes with brand new winter tyres, new brakes, new battery, and rust proofing. The car was checked at a local mechanic and it had no issues
- The 2007 Toyota Yaris had the following issues when I got it checked by a mechanic: a small chip on the windshield, an ABS light that comes on and off occasionally.
The Yaris is for $3000 cad. The civic is for $5500 cad.
What car do you think I should pick?
The Yaris is a simple economy car but for the price and miles I'd go Civic. But here is a side note, 2012 did not impress many because of the driving dynamic so I would test drive it and if your happy with it they can be good cars. You might also want to consider the previous years (2010 2011)
Here are some common problems with the Civic

In American terms its a nice Civic in good mechanical condition with 60k miles going for less than 4000USD. What the heck I'd go for it if you like it. Keep in mind the Civic is 9 years old and the Yaris is 14 so the Civic would also be more modern and safe.
Those are both excellent cars and I would say that they are pretty well neck and neck. Your best bet would be to pick whichever one you like better.
I’d go Civic in this case. It’s later on that generation of Civic, so they have all the kinks worked out. On top of that, it’s probably the most Civic, Civic of them all.
Nothing bad with the Yaris either. I would be happy to drive both!
2012 is the first year of the generation
I would go with Civic, but if you could get a Dodge Caliber for $5 you get infamous Chrysler build quality and a fantastic JATCO CVT transmission. Wow, what a deal! Just don’t pay more than $5 for the Dodge. Okay, total sarcasm behind. The Civic is the better car, but try to offer $4800 to $5000 for the Civic
Definetly get the civic because they they have more space, power, and more comfortable. The yaris is only good for commuting and is very uncomfortable. The yaris was $13,000 brand new and the civic was about $17,000 brand new. Both are good cars but are suited for different people's needs.
Yaris’s are reliable but they are horrible cars to drive. You’ll probably go insane after driving it for more than 20 minutes. I even thought my Civic was too small and uncomfortable and I know Yarises are even worse. The Civic definitely will be a much nicer ride with more power
Between the two, go with the Civic!
