- Dear Scotty love the show I’ve been a fan for years. I have a 2018 Infiniti q50 3.0t twin turbo engine. I enjoy the car and I want it to last. I am aware of GDI engines and issues it may eventually have. I noticed while going through Autozone/Oriely’s I notice a cleaner for GDI engines. My question is do you know if they work to help reduce carbon build up? Or is just snake oil. I change my oil and do preventative maintenance on my car for years. Any “real” GDI engine cleaners that work or you recommend? Thank you for your time.

not really. Carbon residue is very stubborn. It's baked on.
The only way to clean it all off is to have it walnut shell blasted or something like that.
