2009 Honda Civic Clicking from passenger side

I have a 2009 Honda Civic LX - 94,000 miles - automatic transmission. As I'm driving through town, I occasionally hear a click coming from the engine compartment on the passenger side. I became aware of it when driving with the car radio off. We bought the car used from a couple we know and we've regularly maintained it with regular oil changes and had the transmission fluid changed at 90K miles. The noise is a single click and seems to happen randomly but regularly. I can hear the click a dozen times on a relatively short trip of a few miles. The only time it consistently happens is when I'm just about to a stop. My first instinct is that it may be something with the transmission but that's an uneducated guess. Other than that, the car seems to run well and shifts smoothly. Any ideas of what may be the cause?

Use this technique to pinpoint the noise -

Check the cv axle on the side the noise is coming from. Chances are you'll find a torn boot & the grease splattered in the area of the tear.

When it's just happening occasionally it's just at the start of what will soon be the total failure & alot of clicking/clunking.

Thanks - I did some more trouble shooting yesterday. Nothing torn or leaking from that area. I could hear the tap occasionally when idling at a stop. I'm starting to think its the transmission.

When idling as in brakes applied & fully stopped? If that's the case the valvetrain might need adjusting.
