My car calls for 35 psi, but the tpmc light comes on at that pressure, I.m running at about 40 psi with tires that say max 50 psi,. Any suggestions?

You should use the pressure on the sticker in your door jamb. (maybe try verifying with two different gauges)
If you get a tpms warning, then the system is malfunctioning.

Just want to add that the tpms sensor works with batteries and when those die you basically have to change the sensors and good ones aren't cheap so if you realize it's an issue with the sensors or system in general just disconnect them and use a gauge to check your tire pressure.
