Broken crankshaft pulley

Hey everyone,
The crankshaft pulley on my 2005 Acura TL just failed — the outer ring separated from the rubber. Right before this happened, I noticed power steering fluid overflowing from the reservoir. I'm wondering what could have caused this and what else should be replaced?

  • Could the power steering issue be related?

  • Aside from the pulley itself, are there other parts I should replace or inspect while I’m in there?

I understand that fluids making contact with the rubber in the crankshaft can cause failure earlier.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The mere fact that it's 20 years old is sufficient for the rubber to deteriorate. That process would have been hastened when soaked in oil. Fix the leak.

There was a recall on the power steering line, if it hasn't been done, replace it.
