Hi Scotty, do I really need to change the CVT fluid in my 2018 Honda CRV every 3years or 40,000km’s as specified by Honda
Yes the lubrication of the oil is no longer with in spec and not changing it will cause excessive wear and damage.
I would, just to be on the safe side. It's cheap and easy enough to do. Those transmissions will cost a fortune to rebuild or replace if they go out. Changing the fluid is like cheap insurance. I know a lot of people swear to only use the dealer OEM fluid but for what it's worth, I changed the CVT fluid in my sister's Honda Fit with the Valvoline CVT fluid and haven't had any issues.
According to Scotty if you have Honda vehicle, use Honda transmission fluid.
I changed my '17 CRV CVT fluid with Honda fluids when the service minder said to. Easy enough to do, just make sure you have a funnel long enough to fill with.
