I recently inherited a 2014 Honda CR-V lx auto from my father. It had 161,000 km (pretty much 100,000 miles) and he said he had flushed the transmission at the dealership twice since buying it new. We did flush it a 3rd time when I got it along with oil change and brakes. My question is at this point should I keep flushing the trans every 80,000 km (50,000 miles) or should I just be draining and refilling with Honda trans fluid?
Just drain and fill. Many flush procedures result in issues.
What was the reason to flush the transmission?
Originally the dealership recommended it and my father was the type to follow some of their recommendations despite it likely being a money grab. Where he had done it at least once (he had thought maybe twice but he wasn't sure) I decided at the time to do it again as it had likely been done at 80,000 km (50,000 miles) and I received it at 161,000 (100000 miles) and it seemed like it couldn't hurt. I have not been experiencing any known issues with the trans but want to keep up with maintenance in the best way possible. Just don't know what really is necessary or best.
"flushing" is commonly done but can lead to major problems especially at higher miles.
