Hi Scotty. I have a 2002 Honda CRV with automatic transmission. Car has 272,000 km and trans shifts fine but I have no idea when the last service was done. I want it to last longer obviously but should I just change the transmission oil and filter or have it flushed out ? Thank you for any info. Scott.

Never flush engine oils or transmission fluids! Not unless it’s your last resort to keep a vehicle running.

If you don’t know the service history of your vehicle, inspect the transmission fluid. If it’s clean & doesn’t smell burnt, just do a regular drain & fill (not flush). However, if the fluid is all black & dirty with a lot of debris, I’d leave it alone & baby the transmission.

If you do change the fluid, only use the correct Honda fluid (look up the specification in your owner’s manual) and not any other fluid or it’ll ruin your transmission.
