just viewed your video about rip-offs....I'm not familiar with other states, but here in Florida they insist on adding a "dealer fee" of up to $1000 on new and used car sales. I find this to be pure greed, and deceptive...if all of your Florida viewer/members agree to boycott this outlandish thievery, maybe they will stop it?
If there is no law preventing them from doing that then, yes, the only way is to not patronize them. It's supply and demand. The problem is mostly due to the car shortage creating a seller's market the likes of which have not been seen since the immediate postwar period. Many dealers are tacking on a heck of a lot more than $1000 to the sticker price. If they're all adding such fees though and people need to buy a new car or late model trade-in there's not much choice except maybe from looking at dealers in another state who might be more reasonable.

That would be a hilarious exercise in futility.
Sure you could go on a "dealer fee" witch hunt, and they'll just shift it into something else with another name, like whack-a-mole.
At the end of the day, it's a free country, and a company/person can ask whatever they like for their goods, and it's your choice if you buy it or not.
Learn to negotiate.
The dealerships use those fees as negotiation tactics, it's just a scam.
When purchasing a new car, one of the first things I tell a salesman is I don't consider any of your fees above the MSRP part of the negotiations. I never pay anywhere near MSRP either.
I have also gone to as many dealers as possible to find the deal I'm willing to pay.
I have negotiated for 5+ hours before, smiled and walked out. Since they are working on commission, they can accept my price or waste their time. It's up to them.
If I can't find it locally, no problem. I have gone to surrounding states to find what I'm looking for. If you end up going that route, make sure you know the tax and registration laws first.
I hate dealers. I’d probably buy a new car more often it I didn’t have to deal with dealers.
I've seen a lot of dealerships in my state add around $300 for dealer prep fee (fake fee) and it has been getting worse with the car shortage because they know people don't have as many options for shopping around as they did before. Even dealerships that said they don't have a second sticker and are so-called one-price dealerships were using other tactics to make more money. And on top of that comes the markup and useless overpriced add on items. Unfortunately if someone needs to buy brand new then they're stuck with dealerships so only option is trying different dealerships until you find one that will sell at the price you want (boycotting won't work in my opinion until the day that people would need to buy new cars and dealerships are the only option).
