Hi Scotty
I have a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Automatic 4x4
At 4500 miles I had my first oil change at the dealer. They didn't put the oil filter on properly and after 5 miles away I realized there was smoke billowing out the back. Then the engine light came on. I immediately returned and the low oil pressure was on. I'm concerned the engine is damaged. Dealer says it's healthy. Any thoughts?
A booboo? The dealer is now responsible for destroying your engine. You better have all the documentation for everything that was done and be ready to fight like hell.
Unbelievable. They can’t even change the oil right.
I agree with doc, this could be big trouble so make a written record of everything. Be ready to escalate the matter if the dealer doesn’t make it right.
That said, you might be alright. You never know. A local oil change place did the same thing to my wife’s 2013 grand Cherokee (5.7L hemi) 70,000 miles ago; I expected it to drop dead but it’s still purring like a kitten in a warm blanket.
Jeep’s electronics are terrible but their motors are usually pretty robust. Cross your fingers.
PS: be prepared to get an opinion from a second dealer or independent mechanic. I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to tell you “it’s fine, it’s fine”when it’s not fine.
Yikes. That is ridiculous. I would have an independent mechanic check the engine. If there is a problem I would demand they replace the engine. I would also make them pay for the inspection if it turns out the engine is not fine like the dealer stated in their "inspection"
