The new generation Honda Accord starting with model year 2023 offers two powertrain options:
1.) 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder mated to a CVT transmission; the former 2.0L turbocharged engine is gone along with their torque converter automatic transmissions
2.) 2.0L 4-cylinder hybrid system with CVT
The reviews I have read indicate this is all about the MPG and emissions, basically a compliance car. The soul of previous generation Accords is just not there.
It’s one thing moving over to turbocharged engines, but these two powertrain options above with CVT - come on, now! I won’t be recommending the new Accord.
All of the manufacturers are doing that kind of thing due to continued asinine pressure from Washington and other governments to eke out the last few bits of efficiency possible in their continuing war against ManBearPig. It will take a complete and long-term regime change for a return to sanity and I don't see that happening any time soon.
Ugh. I hate how they have to neuter the car so much. What other option do they have to meet the requirements of the law?
Unfortunately this is what happens when the government wants to make decisions for car manufacturers. Although I don't agree with forcing manufacturers into making such changes but at the same time I won't stop recommending the Accord. Yes it is a CVT and I know there are many people who don't like CVT but the quality is good and it serves the purpose of a reliable daily driver.
