I placed an order about 4 weeks ago for a part for one of my vehicles . They charged my credit card (VISA) but have not shipped the product to me yet. I have tried to contact the selling company for a status update to no avail.

That would depend on which credit card company and plan you have. I'd call them now, especially since the merchant is not communicating with you. If the part showed up tomorrow or next week, then you could call off the charge-back.

I don't know, see what your fine print says, but I find that they are usually pretty accommodating.
Absolutely, you should call them and tell them what happened. This is one of the best perks of using a credit card.
There may even be some consequences to the merchant if it happens enough.

I had to dispute once, and had it done the next day post the charge (at the time I had the crappy MasterCard Gold).
Explained it to my local MasterCard branch and they handled it for me.
Currently, I have a Visa and what I would do is text my bank and let them handle the situation.
Although I do not know how if it works the same in N.A, I'm sure that if you text / call your bank they will know what to do.
