Hello Scotty:
I love this website, works great.
I have a 2017 Ford Escape 1.5 liter GDI that I bought brand new. It's been a good car, no recalls or repairs. I'd like to know if you know of a way to permanently turn off this start stop feature. My dealer says they don't know how and my local service guy is afraid to try. He fears he might mess something else up as well. Some "experts" say this feature won't harm my engine and others, including you say it causes premature engine wear. Longtime viewer and fan. 🙂 Dave
You might try something like this:

(Disclaimer: I've read about this gadget but don't know anyone who has tried it or how well it really works.)

Yes, I am aware of that device just not sure if the stop start issue is worth me spending $150.00 CAD for it? Still on the fence. 🙂
There is no factory way to turn it off. You could always look to see what fuse it is and pull it, but you'll want to make sure it doesn't affect anything else.
The simple act of starting an engine can do damage. Stopping and re-starting at every stop sign or light will do a lot more damage.
Take pity on your engine and disable stop/start, permanently !
Dealers may tell you can't be done, but they lie. They all know that software parameters can be altered to the point of preventing stop from happening. And after-market devices can and do work just fine.
But if the dealer disables, they lose service and repair money (maybe that's one reason they lie ?)
I totally agree with Mod_Man. The car systems are so complicated that changing one thing could affect so many other stuff you do not want to. If I were you, I would turn it off manually each time and do not mess with the car computer system.
You might want to go to the owner discussions at https://www.fordescape.org/ or check out what seem to be a number of Youtube videos on this engine and topic
