The self adjuster in a 2004 toyota matrix drum brake system was not working so I manually adjusted it. The manual adjustment seemed to also get the automatic adjuster to start working.
Does anyone know why manually adjusting the self adjuster got the self adjuster working?

It was stiff from corrosion and stuff, and you probably just loosened it up.
