Hey Scotty I am from Europe and resently bought 7th gen Honda Accord with automatic transmission and 185000km (~115000 mils). Checked the transmission fluid an it looks clean, but low level. should I change it?
@InThrustWeTrust is correct and that is what Scotty has recommended as well.
Don't change if you have not changed transmission fluid for a long time, topping it up should be fine.
However if the transmission starts slipping at a later date, you may want to try changing the fluid to see if it improves the situation, at that time remember to store the old tranny fluid so that if the new fluid performs worse than the old one then you can go back to the old one. At kogitsu.com we have a free ebook based on Scotty's advice for a free download for the maintenance schedule for various fluids.
@daviddedwin
Thanks. I think I did watch that video, but wanted someone else's opinion. I think replacing most of the fluids at around 190000 km.
@daviddedwin
What is that book called?
I have a direct link to the ebook with information gleaned from Scotty's videos here ( https://kogitsu.com/download/kogitsu-scotty.pdf )
Do you have the service history of the car? If so, when was the last time it was changed?
If not, I wouldn’t change it. However, I would certainly top up the fluid with the correct transmission fluid recommended by Honda specifically for your vehicle.
It’s never a good idea to drive a car, low on any fluid.
@inthrustwetrust
Yeh that is the problem, I did not get the service history.
