Hi Scotty, I have a 2016 Mazda 6 GT with 70000 miles on it. When I took the car for servicing, they recommended me to get the engine belt replaced since it has reached the 70000 mark. As for the condition of the vehicle, it has no issues, runs smooth and still gives me a mileage of 29/36 mpg.
Could you suggest when would be a good time to make the belt change? Thanks in advance!
What does the manufacturer recommend?
In your owners manual, section 6-5 it specifies changing the belt every three years or 30K miles, whichever comes first. It's right there in the manual.
I couldn’t find anything in the manual or on their website about the belt as such.
I found it online in 10 seconds.
Typically and I'm not sure about Mazda but I usually let the factory belt go to around 100,000 miles and then will change it. In your case I would inspect it and as long as it is not cracked or beat up you are probably okay.
The aftermarket belts I usually change about every 50,000 miles and I like the continental belts for the aftermarket serpentine belts. Not hard to change on most vehicles.
