Hello there, I have a question regarding my 2007 Chevy cobalt automatic it has 155,000 miles it’s got the 2.2L I got this car used and I was inspecting some things out and I noticed when I took off the oil cap with the car running there was enough air coming out to blow up a balloon. How long will my car last and what causes it?? The car was bought from my family(dads choice).

Your not getting crankcase ventilation. There is no pcv valve on the 2.2 Ecotec. A little bit of air coming out the oil fill cal is normal when running. If your getting alot it means your air port or hose is clogged with sludge. Big hose off valve cover left side. If it’s really bad you’ll have to pull the valve cover and clean it. While you have the cover off see if you have any slack in your timing chain. If you do then your engine could die any day now, and you need to decide if 1200 bucks is worth it to you to replace it, if you do then I suggest a new water pump while ur in there. If it’s tight you have awhile to go.  Key to making these last is more frequent oil changes. Every 3/4k miles. I have 228k on mine.

FYI , if you still get alot of air after cleaning the valve cover then your rings are worn. If your not burning oil just keep up on frequent changes and drive it til it dies.
