Hi,

I just bought a used 2011 lexus es 350. It sometime blows white smoke on start up. Someone suggested that I put 1 qt of Transmission fluid in engine and drive for about 50 miles and change the oil and it should clean up any sludge or carbon build up.

What you all's take on this approach??

That "someone" is an idiot.

If you want to clean carbon out of the engine Scotty recommends the ATS Carbon Clean product. However if you're blowing a lot of white smoke I'd be more concerned about a possible blown head gasket.

Thanks. I wanted to be sure.

Mechanic looked at it before I purchased but it was not blowing any smoke. He did see some sludge and engine sounded fine.

Once I saw occasional white smoke on start up and someone (not the mechanic) told me the above remedy.
