Why is my car losing oil

Hey Scotty, I notice that my engine consumes oil. I’m not leaking it so I have to be burning it right? What would be some signs that I’m burning oil.

It’s a 2003 Corolla with 167K miles on it

the 1ZZFE engine in your car is a known oil burner. The piston rings just wear out. Toyota acknowledged the issue and issued an extended warranty for it (which is now over).

Check & top up the oil often to avoid damaging the engine. It's just a fact of life.

It's either leaking or burning, there are no other options. If it's burning a significant amount of oil you'd see it on the spark plugs and in the tailpipe. If real bad you'd see blue smoke from the exhaust.
