Which is the best method of draining the old oil?
Removing the sump plug to drain, or using a dipstick tube extractor pump?

empty it through the drain plug so the oil flushes out all the garbage that collects in the pan
Agreed. That’s what the drain plug is for - to completely drain the oil.
