I have a 2006 Ford Mustang V6 4.0 with 81k. I suspect I have oil leaking from the timing cover. I plan to use engine oil dye to confirm. I recently changed the oil. Am I good to drain the oil to replace the gasket and then reuse it?

Do you really want to be doing the job again when it leaks because you skimped on a $30 gasket?
No, am I safe to reuse the oil with the dye. Sorry for any confusion.
