I've got a 2010 Honda Crosstour that is currently dealing with 2 issues: terrible knocking sound at startup and a lot of oil consumption. Is this a sign to replace the engine or some simple fixes?
Uploading a video of the knocking will make it easier for Scotty or somebody else to diagnose the problem. It sounds like you may have rod knock, if that's the case, you need to rebuild or replace the engine.
Excess oil consumption can be caused by a bad PCV valve, which is usually simple to fix. If you're not seeing a puddle of oil underneath the car or dripping down the side, you're probably burning it, either due to a faulty valve or internal engine wear.
If you see a drip, look around the valve covers on top of the engine as well as near the transmission. You could have leaking valve cover gaskets or possibly a leaky rear main seal. Using leak dye for engine oil will help pinpoint a leak, if there is one.
Definitely need to hear the knock to diagnose it. It could be lifter tap, rod knock, an out of adjustment valve....too many things.
