I don’t know if anyone would know about this but I got an old Kubota W5021 SC push mower and the last owner ran it out of oil and it seized. Got it unstuck but after 10 minutes when it gets hot, it seizes again. Once it cools down, it’ll start back up and run for another 10 minutes till it gets hot again and seizes again. I don’t know if it needs a piston, rings, or both. I know it needs oil rings because there was a ton of oil in the cylinder when I took the head off… opinions?
If the piston got scored up it might be seizing up in the bore when it expands. Tear the engine down and see what's going on in there, it's a good learning experience.
Well the cylinder bore isn’t scored at all, I don’t know about the piston, the bore is pretty much perfectly smooth.
Do you think I can replace the piston head, rings, and wrist pin without replacing anything else?
It really should be torn down to evaluate the damage. If it's not the piston seizing in the bore you probably have bearings seizing up.
well luckily mower engines are easy to take apart and put back together. Tear down the engine and see if any bearings are seized
