I just watch a short video on a new Hummer EV off roading. In the comments someone joked about a rollover. Have there been any studies on EV rollover crashes and the weight of the batteries?
the batteries are typically placed as low as possible on EV's, so if anything, it should help lower the center of gravity and prevent rollovers.
Still, a rollover is always possible and quite common in car crashes.
ok?
The heaviest part of an SUV or any electric vehicle is the battery. They typically sit between the wheels, below the passengers and driver. If anything, there should be less of a tendency to roll over. Batteries are flat, and very close to the center of gravity, as opposed to an engine, which makes it more top heavy. There is a decreased moment of inertia with an engine, because it's further away from the centerline of the vehicle.
