Scotty,
I have an 04 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, purchased in 2014 with about 240k on the beast already. I know you don’t care for chrysler much, I like F 150s fine but she was in my budget at $6500 for a recent Wal-Mart employment termination.
Sometimes I pull a trailer, I did Amazon flex for a year and most of the scratches are from that, but now its mostly S.F. city driving and greater Bay Area carrying a full bed of tools.
As an automatic 4x4, original 5.7 Hemi and tranny, she now carries 442k. (I’m changing out most of the front end components this weekend. )
She starts at a flick of the switch and quietly purrs.
When pressing the pedal she meters out ponies as requested and if I want to romp on it she releases them through the gate whilst singing “yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.
She likes the new shorty headers, which is all that KalifoЯnia will allow, for a bit more power in the low RPM range. (3 of the 4 O2 sensors failed and after replacement, the computer is now throwing a catalytic converter efficiency code, so I’m following your recommended cleaning procedures, the thinner did not help, so I’m off to the 24hr soak).
All that to say this, I’m considering installing a y-gate with a cherry bomb in line to hear the ponies war cry, but keep the quiet stock muzzle for, shall we say, more docile environs.
What are you're thoughts?
Don't bother.
Manual.
Electric.
Remote.
Something else?
Amazon recommendation?
Thanks from a capable mechanic that appreciates your experience and sharing.
I would do manual if I were you that's simpler to do and easy to diagnose if you have a problem often you can fix them with a sprayer WD-40 unlike the electronic stuff
