Scotty,
2012 F150 XLT 4x4 3.7l V6 110k miles. ABS & Traction Control lights came on, honest local mechanic checked it out and said bad HCU, speed sensors are ok, needs to go to the dealer for a new HCU because only the dealer can reprogram it. Ford dealer tells me it will be well north of $2,000, including unknown time to do their own diagnostics. My guy says it's not true, they have the best scanners and can diagnose it easily and quickly. And the shop rate and parts markup are astronomical. This whole deal smells like a giant ripoff by the dealer. Is there any way around this?
thanks
Well, those lights are on so there's a problem in the ABS and or the traction system. They're complex systems but they can be bi directionally tested by any good mechanic with a good daily level scan tool. You have to trust what they say. And of course a lot of them are crook so you really need an honest mechanic
