Goodafternoon Scotty!! I have a really strange problem.
I drove my father's 2016 F150 with about 36k miles on it for about 35mins to get to town. No problems existed at the moment.
When I get to a stoplight in town, the temperature light comes on and says "high engine coolent temperature" and the gage is on (C). I immediately stop and restart the truck. All lights go out and temp gage is in the middle. About 5mins later it comes back on as well as the engine light. I turn it back off and start it up again to get it to a safe location and both lights stay on. Once in a safe location the truck stalls and now won't start up again.
The coolent reservoir is above maximum, and hot to the touch. The gage was again on (C)
Any ideas what happened/is going on?
Also I tried 30mins later to start it back up and it won't start anymore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!
"high engine coolant temperature" message with the gauge on (C) seems to be pointing to a defective Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor
It could be because the engine was hot or maybe you are low on coolant. Starting a motor when it's hot is different when the motor is cooled down.
As I stated in the previous message, the coolant was above the max line. The engine was definitely hot to the touch as well. I also did try and wait 30mins to start it back up, and it still would just crank but not start. No signs of leaks or cracked hoses.
Because it cranks and doesn't start, check the fuel pump. If the fuel is being sent to the truck, and no fire, then the fuel pump might have went out by accident.
