What car would you recommend Scotty? I live in Philadelphia and need a city car with great gas mileage, easy to park so small in size but can still cart a young family of four to sports with some zip to accelerate thru traffic while still being fun to drive!

Philadelphia streets are overall in terrible shape, almost like a lunar landscape. You'll be driving over cratered streets, possibly cobblestones in some areas, dodging trucks, buses, cyclists, even kids on ATVs coming at you from all directions.
So what you DON'T want is something with a really firm "sports" suspension or low-profile tires that will jolt your kidneys every other minute and be easily damaged by potholes and other road hazards. You want a compliant suspension and tires with some meat in the sidewall to absorb impact.

To actually answer your question (unlike these other muppets), get a Toyota Corolla hatchback.
Honda Fit would also be a good alternative to the Corolla Hatchback. Getting a manual is a better option to have fun and reliability.
