Family vehicle recommendations

Scotty, and Scotty community. I am looking for something to replace my 08 Escalade in the coming future. I don’t mind used, I just want something that will last longer than I will. I am a family of 5 and in the military so I move often. If I could have a few recommendations that would be great thanks.

Clarification: What are some requirements for your next vehicle? I presume you are looking for a 3-row as well.

It does t have to be

That’s pretty cool that you have an 08 Escalade still up and running.  May I ask how many miles you have on that thing?

My first choice would be a the current and previous generation Toyota Highlander or the current generation Toyota Sequoia.  The Sequoia would probably feel more like an Escalade since they are both built body and frame.  (I may also consider the 4Runner and Land Cruiser, same platform as the Sequoia, but not sure if the size might be big enough.)

I would also consider the current or previous Honda Pilot.  Granted, the big thing to lookout for on the Pilot is the timing built.  Make sure it has been changed, or that you factor in the cost of changing it at the appropriate intervals.  (As a caution, watch out for Pilots with cylinder deactivation.)  If the price is right, this might be a good deal, because Toyota’s usually sell for a premium, even used.

I would also be interested in the second gen Mazda CX-9. I love Mazda’s design approach and their approach to quality, and am fascinated with the SkyActiv engines.  They are probably one of the most innovative companies when it comes to the ICE, and have implemented these things over time to make sure they get it right.

I don’t think I would recommend smaller than all of the above mentioned, if you are used to the size of the Escalade.  Unless you and the family are open to smaller vehicles.

177k, transmission is beginning to slip

Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander 100%.

I will get a Toyota with 3 rows but if you care about gas mileage stay away from the sequoia and 4runner and get a highlander hybrid or the regular version. A Honda Pilot isn't a bad choice either there reliable. If you want something luxurious like the escalate get a Acura MDX.

I would say Toyota Sienna.
