Hey Scotty,
How do I go about finding a reputable independent mechanic like you locally?
I’m in Columbus, Ohio.
Thanks!
John
I would first try Googling independent mechanic shops in your area and reading the reviews/experiences people have had. (this is what I did for my car) Also, try to find a shop that knows the type of car you have - i.e. if you have a Japanese car, try finding a shop that specializes in Japanese vehicles.
You may also just want to ask around friends in the local area to see if they have any recommendations.
When you think you found a place, take your car in just for an oil change or brake inspection .... Something simple.
Announce yourself as a new customer, and ask about the people and their shop.
And then see what happens.
If your oil change/whatever turns into a long expensive list of "you should really get injection cleaning ... blah, blah ... run away.
what if the car actually desperately needs a long expensive list of work done to it? 😛
It doesn’t...
My daily driver is a 2014 Chev Impala LTZ with 48,000 miles. I keep it in like-new condition and want to make it last as long as possible. It has a powerful V6, rides like a luxury sedan with every available option but adaptive cruise control. The Chevy dealers’ service departments in Columbus are reasonably competent, but expensive. They charge $90 just to look at it.
I was kind of hoping for a potential referral. Appreciate the feedback!
